Cubaris “Red Panda” isopods
Cubaris sp. “Red Panda” Isopods
Cubaris “Red Panda” isopods are a rare and eye-catching species known for their bold, high-contrast coloration. Their bodies feature deep reddish-orange tones paired with dark banding, giving them a look reminiscent of a red panda’s markings—hence the name. This striking appearance makes them a standout addition to any isopod collection.
Native to tropical regions of Southeast Asia, Red Panda isopods thrive in warm, humid environments with plenty of cover. They prefer setups with deep substrate, leaf litter, and cork bark where they can burrow and hide, as they are naturally shy and reclusive—especially during the day.
Reaching around 1–2 cm in size, they are a medium-sized Cubaris species with a slow, deliberate movement. Like other isopods, they are detritivores, feeding on decaying organic matter such as leaf litter and rotting wood, making them useful in bioactive enclosures as a clean-up crew.
Cubaris “Red Panda” is considered more of an intermediate to advanced species. They require stable humidity, good ventilation balance, and consistent warmth to thrive and reproduce. When kept properly, they will gradually establish and reward keepers with their unique look and behavior.
Their rarity, vivid coloration, and exotic appeal make Red Panda isopods a premium choice for serious hobbyists and collectors.
